Regular weekend working party's are to begin soon with the following message from Kevin Kingsley.

"Hello folks,

Thank you all for your help on working on the railway so far and for the work still to be done.

The plan is to try and start a regular weekend working party on the railway were we can start to take on the bigger tasks that we need to do. More bodies make it much easier and give a great sense of reward to all helping out. On these weekends we will be moving up and down the railway to keep on top of the work already done and to show to the public that we are serious in getting this railway up and working.

The first weekend will be on the 9th & 10th July at Llynclys doing a range of tasks from strimming to collecting up the newt fencing and storing it with other general tasks planned.

If you are able to come, even if only for a couple hours it all helps, please let me know.

Hope to see you there.

Kevin."

Today saw "Mums" driving the trains at Llynclys on the CHR, For the bargain price of just £10 you could have your Mother driving the train from Llynclys south station to Penygareg lane halt and back under the watchful and expert eye of CHR Driver Mr Malcolm Davidson, i could not miss this opportunity and booked it in as a surprise for my very own mother, the team at Llynclys executed the surprise expertly and professionally and a good morning was had by all, my Mum was absolutely thrilled with her experience and i can personally recommend it to anyone, for £70 you can do it for the entire day! for details please use the "contact me" section on the left hand menu and i can put you in contact with the

appropriate person....

I like this shot as it gives the impression we are passing another unit on the main line - even if we are on the wrong side. (Photo by Pete Kirkman from www.montgomerycanal.co.uk)

A Very pleased mum after getting everyone back safely to Llynclys south station.

And finally a video of the entire thing.

this might be the last update i ever do as she will kill me when she reads this...

Today BR "Brit" no 70000 "Britannia" was doing its running in duties within a spitting distance from Oswestry, It was on its way to Devon Via Chester and Shrewsbury, Here is a pic of her about to pass under the old A5 at Babbinswood.

Perhaps one day she will hang a right at Gobowen and call in Oswestry...

From Mr Kevin Kingsley...

26th and the 27th of March

"The plan for this weekend is to clear the last section's of track that are left to do hopefully we will get the last 3 section done which are:-

1) Gas works Bridge to weston wharf this is the last section heading out of town to conect up with the section that have all ready done all the way to Llynclys.

2)Llynclys Juntion to Porth-Y-Waen Halt. A lot of this section has all ready been done but this is the worst part of the line to done and will possable take the most time.

3)Town Station to A5 crossing. This is the longest section to but is not to bad with the growth and we hit this when the other 2 are done.

We will be starting in town at gas works brigde meeting at 9.30 am on sat, If you are joining us later please start there and then try the other loction till you find us even an hour will help. Please bring any tools that are of use for this task and mugs to have drinks and food that you wish.

Hope fully by the end of the weekend we can see the wood for the tree?? or the rails and have the whole line clean for the frist time in ??

Hope to see you all please let us know if you are coming or if you have any question please ask.

Kevin.

2 images. the first has been identified but see if you can guess what it is....

The next one you will need to look a little closer, there appears to be the slope of a platform edging's right in the middle of the south end of the the island platform, Did there used to be a bay platform here at one point?

They are bottom right (ish) of both pictures. any ideas?

"If you would be interested in helping to restore one or two steam locos to working order for use on Cambrian Heritage Railways please contact Bradley Smith who will be heading up the project(s) organisation for us.   Bradley is on 01270 258664 or at brs70000@O2.co.uk.   The most likely locos for restoration are “Norma” (Austerity 060) and “Oliver Veltom” (040 Peckett).   The intention is eventually to use steam at both Oswestry and Llynclys.

If you know of anyone else who may be interested in these projects (or helping to fund them!) please pass their contact details to Bradley.

Many thanks

Rick Kirby

(Cambrian Heritage Railways)"

To give you a clue of what lies ahead...

Norma....

And Oliver Veltom.

Both are in the middle of overhauls.

There is now a Noticeable "hole" in the line of carriages on the mainline due to Cogan Hall yet again departing to pastures New on the Llangollen Railway, She has been purchased by the Betton Grange society and will be used initially for parts to help the Betton Grange project before eventually being restored herself in the distant future.

See more here and here

Engines and other roling stock are also set to leave verry soon and are queued up in the "departure road" ready to go...

All good to go. (Photo by Daniel Kirkman)
